Aloha Gunstock Runners! Race day is one week away!! We hope your training is going well and we are excited for you to join us for the 5th Annual XTERRA Gunstock Trails Half Marathon and 5k. Here is some, well a lot of, information that will help you with race week. Online Registration will close Monday night at midnight...so advise your friends who’ve still been thinking about it to sign up quickly. They may also register at one of our packet pick ups or on race day but a $10 price increase for each race will be in effect at that point making the half marathon $65 and the 5k $50. Also, race shirts are not guaranteed for those who do not register online, but we do have a few left and they will go on a first come first serve basis. All of you who registered online are guaranteed a shirt!! PACKET PICK UP AND REGISTRATION We have 3 different options for picking up your race packet and bib number. DIRECTIONS TO GUNSTOCK RANCH (directly from their website) Do not count on your GPS to get you to us on time. We are in the “country” and the GPS does not always account for the two lane highway. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes from wherever you are to arrive on time. If you are coming from the Windward side: We are located 2 miles north of the Polynesian Cultural Center. Turn toward the mountains onto our private dirt road. If you are coming from the North Shore: We are 1.3 miles south east of Kahuku High School. Turn toward the mountains on our private dirt road. Carpooling to the race start We encourage carpooling to the race start for many reasons...the environment, race morning comradery, and because we know there are a few of you who just don’t have a car. If anyone is willing to offer a ride from their area, or is just interested in meeting up with other runners (ya know the environment and comradery;-) please either comment on our facebook page or reply to this email that you are willing to help another runner out and we will try to help you work it out, please know we can make no guarantees :) Speaking of our Facebook Page...here is the link, please like of us if you haven’t already! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Xterra-Gunstock-Trails-Half-Marathon-and-5k-Laie-Hawaii/185622024842091?ref=hl RACE PHOTOS This year our race will be photographed by Hawaii Race Photos…so get your peace signs and Toyota Jumps ready! They will be out on the course as well as at the finish line. After the race, you will be able to find your photos on facebook @HawaiiRacePhotos or at 808.instaproofs.com. Smile Pretty! CHIROPRACTIC SERVICES Dr. Jake Simmons of Oahu Family chiropractic, one of our awesome sponsors, will be at the race again this year. He has a background in sports and treating athletes. He is the chiropractor for BYUH athletics and Kahuku High School He will be available to adjust athletes and provide some soft tissue and stretching techniques. AGE GROUPS AND AWARDS As always, we have great prizes from local sponsors! We will award prizes to the top 3 overall Men and Women in both the half marathon and 5k. We will also give a first place award to the first place runner in each age group. Age groups are in 5 year increments….20-24, 25-29, 30-34 etc. Your age group will be determined by your age on race day...however, XTERRA points will be awarded by your age on 12.31.15 as this race is in the 2015 Hawaii race series. The 5k Awards ceremony will take place at 7:45 a.m. The Half Marathon Awards Ceremony will begin at about 9:15…or as soon as the majority of results have come in. And upon finishing that we will do awards and recognition for our North Shore Trails Challenge..... North Shore Trails Challenge We are so excited about the initial year of the North Shore Trails Challenge. We have teamed up with the Peacock Ultra 100k and 50k (which is taking place today, October 11). We will have a special T-shirt and recognition for all those who complete either the 100k or 50k today, and our Gunstock Half Marathon Next Saturday....that’s a lot of tough trail miles in back to back weekends. There will also be a special award for the fastest man and woman to complete 100 and a half, and the fastest man and woman to complete 50 and a half. So....for those of you who completed either the Peacock 100k or 50k today (well done) and who are also running our half marathon...we are doing our best to cross reference our athletes, but we want to make sure we don’t miss anyone. Please reply back to this email with I am doing the north shore trails challenge 100 and a half, or I am doing the north shore trails challenge 50 and a half. That way we for sure won’t miss you :) See you all at one of our packet pick ups and on Race Day!! And remember, if you used our Military Discount please don't forget to bring your Military ID to packet pick up...and thank you for all that you do for our country! 1. Any problems anticipated given the approaching storm? Is there an alternate race day in place if weather becomes a factor on race day?
